Barrel Polishing - Surface Preparation

The surface of the object to be polished should be pickled to clean it, and the pickle rinsed off. All surface scratches should also be removed, because the tumbling action polishes by burnishing it will not remove as much material as when using emery paper or polishing compounds. Any scratches that are left will actually be highlighted by the surrounding high sheen that barrel polishing creates.
