Silver Soldering - Different Methods

Paillion

Small pieces of solder are cut from the strip of solder. These are then placed on or next to the joint. The whole joint is fluxed, and then heated gently until the solder melts and runs along the joint.

Sweat

Solder is melted onto one of the surfaces to be soldered. The other metal surface is then applied to it and heated until the solder re-runs. This is used for overlay work so that the silver remains hidden.

Pick

Small pieces of solder, are placed next to the work. The work and solder is all fluxed and gently heated. Use a soldering pick to place the solder onto the hot work piece.

Stick

Best suited to large soldering jobs, stick soldering involves applying the stick of solder directly to the hot joint.

Paste

Paste solder is supplied in a syringe, ready mixed with flux. Syringes can be bought for different grades of solder.
